In the past, I've been known to highlight some of my go-to social media tools — like feedly and Sprout Social. Today I want to share one of the my more recent finds (and by recent, I mean this morning) — Sniply!

Introduced to me by my mentor, Jeremiah Gardner – I've totally fallen head over heals for this beyond basic link shortner. If you're familiar with other shorteners like Bitly or you'll love the amazing capabilities this social media tool offers.

For those of you wondering "what the hell's a link shortner?" — let me explain. A link shortner, at it's most basic level is a platform which allows you to shorten any URL that you wish to share on social media or anywhere else online.

Why I'm Obsessed with Sniply

Now that you know the simplified definition of a link shortner, let's dive in to the purpose. When sharing content online, whether it be from your site or others' you generally always want to track these visits. Most link shortners will allow you tracking features but Sniply goes above and beyond it's competitors.

How it Works

Okay, so you've followed my advice on strategies for posting and you've decided you want to show your expertise by sharing a related article from Forbes. For example, maybe you want to share this bomb article by Drew Hendricks about Why Entrepreneurs Need To Think Outside The Box. Now, instead of just offering your followers a link to Drew's article why not kill two birds with one stone?

Show, Don't Sell

Notice in the above example I choose (strategically) to offer readers a blog post from my site that's related to entrepreneurs. In my opinion, this is the key to showing and not selling. Personally, I believe there's nothing worse then being over-selly online. Telling people to "Buy Now", or "go do this" is the quickest way to loose their trust and as I've mentioned before — trust on social media is everything!

Customize and Analyze

The fun doesn't just stop at creating basic links. Sniply also allows you to create custom buttons, links, forms and images. Additionally, you can further customize your CTAs by adjusting: colors, placement, text and theme. Once you've finished tweaking your Sniply, you can preview what it will look like then share instantly to social media networks. Opitmize the process even faster by adding the Sniply plugin to your web browser. Now, any time you want to quickly create a Sniply from any site you're on — just hit the plugin button. Boom! You're done... well okay, almost!

Now it's time to track and analyze your Sniply links. If you took the time to create a Sniply account (which you should have) you can log in at any time to track your past links. From the Sniply dashboard you will see the following metrics:

  • link clicks
  • engagement
  • average clicks
  • conversion rate
  • traffic source
  • geographic data

Keeping an eye on your analytics will help you better determine what's working and what's not. As always, this is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Make sure you experiment with several variations to see what resonates best with your audience.
